Theatre“Budget Padmanabham,” a 2001 Telugu comedy film, was produced by Grandi Narayana Rao under the Sri Dhanalakshmi Films banner and directed by S. V. Krishna Reddy. The movie features a star-studded cast including Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishna, and Ravi Teja, with music composed by S. V. Krishna Reddy. Notably, this film is a remake of the 2000 Tamil movie “Budget Padmanabhan.”
The film’s plot revolves around the character Budget Padmanabham, a shrewd and seemingly miserly man, whose eccentricity stems from a traumatic childhood experience. After his parents’ death, he was ruthlessly forced out of his family home by a merciless moneylender. To regain his cherished house, Padmanabham, the senior-most employee in a private firm, accepts a proposal from his colleague Ramya, a spendthrift. She offers to give him her entire salary to help clear his debt, and they get married with the condition that they must not have children until the loan is repaid.
Their tranquil life takes a turn when Padmanabham’s cousin, brother-in-law, and Ramya’s brother move in with them. Matters worsen when Ramya becomes pregnant with triplet boys and struggles to balance her work and home responsibilities. Padmanabham hires a maid named Sonali to assist them, but Ramya becomes suspicious of their relationship and Sonali’s whereabouts, leading to marital strife.
Amidst these challenges, Padmanabham discovers that his boss’s son is married to Sonali and asks him to hide her from his father. This decision strains his marriage. Despite these difficulties, Padmanabham perseveres to accumulate the necessary funds to repay the loan. However, he faces further setbacks when he and Sonali are attacked by his boss’s goons on their way to the hospital, resulting in stolen cash meant for the loan repayment. Eventually, a series of fortunate events, including a change of heart from the moneylender and the recovery of the stolen money, enables Padmanabham to regain his house, and the movie concludes on a joyful note with Sonali giving birth to triplet girls.
