Three people—Ganesh and Lalitha, a couple who have eloped to get married, and their friend Manohar—travel together by car on a wet night in 1964 while a supermoon is shining. Although Manohar seems to be in favor of their union, he actually has evil plans and is secretly in love with Lalitha. They come across a mud-stuck cart along the route that is obstructing their way and holding a large statue of an angel that is too heavy for one person to manage. They make their way past it, get at Manohar’s beach house, and spend the night there. Later, after drinking too much, Manohar takes his revolver out of his car. He sees the lights in his beach house as he tries to stealthily approach the couple’s room from his automobile with the intention of killing them.
The married couple, Vasanth and Aaranya, who are frequently at odds, attempt to work through the difficult times in their relationship sixty years later. When Vasanth and Aaranya quarrel one evening at a pub, Aaranya is devastated. He offers taking a vacation to make things right, but Aaranya suggests spending the weekend at their new flat in a peaceful township. They pass a 1964 statue that has been conspicuously placed along their route as they drive. They plan to spend the night alone with just one security guard on duty because they are the first people to move into the apartment complex.
When Vasanth and Aaranya begin making love after retiring for the day, the electricity cuts off and the same impulse noise resurfaces. They proceed to the parking lot by themselves to turn on the power backup as no one else is there to do so. Just in time, Aaranya spots a stranger, but she is unable to see anyone. But she is certain that someone is present. The ringing of the doorbell further shocks them to the happenings. They are surprised to see that it is Vasanth’s friend, who is irritated by what he claims is a late-night call from them regarding a problem. Despite being perplexed and having not placed such a call, Vasanth and Aaranya insist they have no issues and bid him farewell.
After being informed that they were the only residents in the entire township, Aaranya is shocked to see lights in the flat across from them. After that, odd things start to happen. Across from their flat, they see a mirror image of it, with the exact same furnishings, beverages, and décor. They are startled when a curtain in their flat unexpectedly catches fire, but after extinguishing it, it appears as though nothing occurred. An anonymous sender sends them a bizarre painting, which breaks on its own and then resurfaces complete. Aaranya phones friends and emergency services for assistance in a panic. When Vasanth throws a note through the door in an attempt to get in touch with the neighbors across the street, it is returned to their flat.
Vasanth gradually comes to understand that these odd occurrences happen each time they pass through a completely dark space that separates the two apartments. He feels that this darkness is the root of their problems, even though he does not fully comprehend it. They go to a new timeline every time they go through it. In one timeline, they see themselves phoning a friend for assistance, but the friend shows up in a different reality before they do. The drapes catch fire in one timeline and are put out, but in another, the curtain is left in place. Once the power backup was activated, they extinguished all of the candles in one timeline, while in another, they are all still glowing.
Vasanth and Aaranya bravely traverse the darkness once more, determined to solve it. This time, Aaranya and Vasanth both catch Vasanth talking in private with Aaranya’s friend about a mysterious painting that Aaranya discovers was a gift from her friend and an incident at the pub that seems to have happened between them and should be forgotten. She believes that Vasanth and her buddy are having an affair because she misunderstands this conversation. Aaranya, not convinced, walks off across the darkness by herself as Vasanth tries to explain that her friend was the one who had made unwanted overtures towards him. After pursuing her, Vasanth discovers it is too late and that she has joined a different timeline.
