In Varanasi, Titli Mishra and Ranjan Tiwari are in love and want to get married, but Titli’s father, Brijmohan Mishra, stipulates that Ranjan must work for the government in order to marry Titli. While looking for work, Ranjan promises to do good deeds if he is hired by the government and obtains it illegally by bribing a man named Bhagwan.
The wedding is set for the day after the haldi ceremony, which takes place on the 29th of the month. However, after spending the Haldi day, Ranjan awakens to discover that he is trapped in a time loop and is experiencing the same day over and over again. When it is later revealed that this is due to his unmet commitment, Ranjan realizes that he needs to break the loop by doing a nice deed. He makes every effort to perform a good deed, but nothing succeeds, and he is left stranded on his Haldi day. He gives up and makes the decision to end his life. He encounters Hamid Ansari, a man who is also planning suicide due to unemployment, just before he plunges into the river.
He quickly discovers that he is trapped in a time loop since Ansari is the applicant whose job was mistakenly awarded to Ranjan because he bribed Bhagwan. Returning Ansari’s job would be his good deed, but this is impossible since doing so will cost him Titli and his wedding.
The time loop is still intact. He witnesses Ansari killing himself every day and always comes to his rescue, but Ansari turns down every offer of employment and ends his life. Ranjan quickly learns that Ansari is so desperate for the position because he wants to work for the government, combat corruption, and provide water and electricity to his town.
On the following morning, the 29th, Ansari, who is still alive, gives Ranjan the opportunity to make amends for his wrongdoing, and Ranjan ultimately returns his position to Ansari. At last, the time loop ends, and everyone begins getting ready for the wedding without realizing Ranjan is unemployed. However, everyone, even Titli, criticizes Ranjan for calling off the wedding and claiming to have resigned from his position. After that, Bhagwan arrives and delivers a thought-provoking speech about mankind, endorsing Ranjan’s choice to hire Ansari. After Titli consents to marry Ranjan, the two eventually tie the knot.
