Wamiqa Gabbi

Biography:

Gabbi was born in Chandigarh into a Punjabi household On September 29, 1993. Her father, Govardhan Gabbi, is a writer who works under the pen name Gabbi and in the Hindi and Punjabi languages. She had roles in Hindi and Punjabi movies. She had a little role in the Hindi film Jab We Met (2007) when she made her on-screen debut.

However, she achieved her greatest triumph with Yo Yo Honey Singh and Amrinder Gill in Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 (2013).  Subsequently, she starred in other Punjabi movies, including Dil Diyan Gallan (2019), Nikka Zaildar 2 (2017), Parahuna (2018), and Ishq Brandy (2014).

She has training in Kathak dancing. Tu Mera 22 Mai Tera 22, a Punjabi film starring Yo Yo Honey Singh and Amrinder Gill, was her big break. Following that, she co-starred with actor Diljit Dosanjh in two more Punjabi movies, Ishq Brandy and Ishq Haazir Hai.

In Sixteen, she played Tanisha, the first female protagonist role. Her role as the female lead in the Telugu film Bhale Manchi Roju was acclaimed. In the 2016 Tamil film Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam, Gabbi played the lead female role. In the Malayalam movie Godha, she costarred with Tovino Thomas as the main female character.

Wamiqa signed on to star in the upcoming Tamil film Iravaakaalam, which is helmed by Ashwin Saravanan and also features Sshivada and S. J. Surya, in March 2017. In the film 9, which also starred Mamta Mohandas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, Wamiqa played the prominent role.

In Vishal Bhardwaj’s short film Fursat, which debuted in early 2023, Wamiqa played the lead female role opposite Ishaan Khattar. She was cast in Bharadwaj’s Khufiya, which debuted on Netflix in October of that same year. Additionally, she portrayed Niloufer in the April 2023 release of the Amazon original series Jubilee.
