Plot
Retired police officer Muthuvel Pandian and his family reside in Kodambakkam. ACP Arjun, Muthuvel’s son, is looking into Varman, a peculiar gangster who runs his base of operations out of Arakkonam and smuggles god idols to be sold to customers abroad. Arjun confronts Seenu, Varman’s goon, and wants to know where Varman is. As they get closer to apprehending Varman, Arjun abruptly vanishes, and the police cover up his death by disseminating a theory that he killed himself out of stress from his work.
Lamenting the death of his son and partially holding himself responsible for instilling in him a sense of integrity and bravery, Muthuvel pursues Seenu and kills him, disposing of the body by forcing a naive local cab driver named Vimal to assist him. The effort is made by Varman’s men to assassinate Muthuvel’s grandson Rithvik, but Muthuvel stops them. To no avail, Muthuvel tries to persuade Varman to leave him and his family by alone. Muthuvel chooses to retaliate out of wrath. Initially, he uses blackmail to get Dr. S. Dhandapani, a psychiatrist, to grant his family asylum. After that, Muthuvel goes to see Mandya-based Narasimha, a former criminal who lends him four of his finest shooters.
Varman’s idols are being smuggled, and Muthuvel employs Narasimha’s men to help him steal them. Varman was about to kill his family, and Muthuvel uses the idols to humiliate and blackmail him. Varman orders Bihari mobster Kamdev to send hitmen to assassinate Muthuvel and his family at his house as payback, but Muthuvel and Narasimha’s men kill them first. When Varman learns that Muthuvel is Varman’s objective, Kamdev tells him that Muthuvel was formerly a brutal and charismatic jailer at Tihar prison who both severely punished and assisted the offenders in changing their ways, gaining a vast network of allies that included Kamdev.
Muthuvel traps Varman in his base with the help of a hundred men sent by Sikandar Singh, another ex-criminal, but Varman tells Muthuvel that Arjun is still alive and makes a death threat. In the end, they both reach an agreement whereby Varman will free Arjun in return for Arjun locating a well-known antique crown that is safe in a Mangalagiri temple. As a trustee of the temple that houses the crown, Telugu actor Blast Mohan gets involved in a theft that Muthuvel arranges. Muthuvel eventually obtains the crown through a series of lies and enlists the aid of a Mumbai smuggler called Mathew. He then sends the crown to Varman, but it is later discovered that Muthuvel’s submission was fraudulent.
After releasing Arjun, Varman discovers that he is a dishonest police officer who would kill his own father to gain access to Varman’s operations. But the phony crown also hides a secret camera, so Muthuvel can see and hear everything they say. Along with Kamdev, Vimal, and other allies, he attacks Varman’s stronghold and kills Varman and his men. Meanwhile, Narasimha defends Muthuvel’s family while Mathew shuts down Varman’s smuggling business. Arjun is given one final chance by Muthuvel to submit, but he rejects and makes an attempt to murder him. Rather, Arjun is shot and murdered by Narasimha’s men, and Muthuvel turns to leave silently.
