Vineeth Radhakrishnan, born on 23 August 1969, is a versatile Indian artist known for his contributions to acting, Bharatanatyam dance, voice acting, and choreography. He has made a mark in the film industries of Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bollywood. His remarkable talent has earned him several accolades, including two Kerala State Film Awards, the prestigious Kalaimamani Honor from the Government of Tamil Nadu, and nominations for the Filmfare Award South.
Vineeth was born in Thalassery, Kannur district, North Kerala, to parents K. T. Radhakrishnan and P. K. Shanthakumari. He attended various educational institutions, including Good Shepherd International School in Ooty, St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School in Thalassery, and Devagiri College in Kozhikode. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce from The New College in 1991.
His journey into the world of performing arts was influenced by his aunt, actress Padmini, and her sister, Ragini. They encouraged him to pursue dancing, and he commenced his training in Bharatanatyam at the age of six. His exceptional talent was evident as he consistently won top prizes, including the prestigious “Kalaprathibha” title in 1986 and the first prize at the Kerala School Kalolsavam for four consecutive years.
Vineeth made his film debut in 1985 with I. V. Sasi’s “Idanilangal” and gained prominence with his role in “Nakhakshathangal” in 1986. His dancing skills shone in various films, and he portrayed lead characters in movies like “Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha” (1987) and “Oru Muthassi Katha” (1988). The Tamil remake of “Thakara,” titled “Aavarampoo” (1992) directed by Bharathan, marked a significant turning point in his career.
He further showcased his talent in successful Tamil films like “Gentleman” (1993), “Pudhiya Mugam” (1993), “Jaathi Malli” (1993), and “May Maadham” (1994). Vineeth’s role in the Tamil film “Kadhal Desam” (1996), directed by Kathir, became especially popular for its portrayal of college friendships and romance.In addition to his acting career, Vineeth is deeply passionate about dance and continues to pursue advanced training in Bharatanatyam. He actively participates in dance programs worldwide, including the Surya Dance Festival.
Vineeth’s career experienced a resurgence with his role in Rajinikanth’s “Chandramukhi” (2005) and its Hindi version, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” (2007). His multifaceted talent extended to choreography, earning him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Choreography for “Kambhoji” in 2017.Vineeth’s artistic journey includes voice acting, and he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Dubbing Artist in 2020 for his contribution to the film “Lucifer.”
He continues to make significant contributions to the world of cinema, with recent appearances in films like “Sarvam Thaala Mayam” (2019) and “Vaanku” (2021). Vineeth is a dedicated family man, married to Priscilla Menon, with whom he has a daughter.
