Biography:

Subaskaran Allirajah, born on March 2, 1972, is a British-Sri Lankan Tamil entrepreneur renowned for his role as the founder and chairman of Lycamobile, a telecommunications company. In addition to his telecom ventures, he has delved into the world of entertainment as a film producer through Lyca Productions, based in Chennai, India. This subsidiary has contributed to both Tamil and Hindi cinema, with its first film “Kaththi” (2014) marking the beginning of its cinematic journey. Notably, Lyca Productions produced the science fiction blockbuster “2.0” (2018), which held the distinction of being India’s most expensive film at the time of its release. The company has also brought forth other significant films like “Ponniyin Selvan: I” (2022) and “Ponniyin Selvan: II” (2023).

Expanding his interests, Subaskaran Allirajah became the new owner of the Jaffna Kings for the 2021 Lanka Premier League, showcasing his involvement in the realm of cricket. Additionally, the cricket team Lyca Kovai Kings representing Coimbatore city in the Tamil Nadu Premier League is owned by Lyca Productions.

Throughout his career, Subaskaran Allirajah has received numerous accolades. In 2010, he was honored with the Best Overall Enterprise gold award at the Asian Achievers Award ceremony, recognizing his significant impact on the Asian community in the UK. His achievements extended to receiving the “International Entrepreneur of the Year” award from Asian Voice Political and Public Life in 2011, followed by the “2011 Power Business of the Year” award and the “Social Entrepreneur of the Year” award from the English Asian Business Awards in 2012.

Despite his successes, his ventures have faced challenges, including legal disputes related to alleged fraud. Lycamobile has been involved in several disputes, including a significant case with HM Revenue and Customs, which could result in substantial liabilities for the company.
