Rajit started his acting journey on the stage and later made a name for himself in the entertainment industry with his diverse and powerful performances.

One of his most iconic roles was that of Byomkesh Bakshi, a fictional detective character created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. Rajit Kapur portrayed Byomkesh Bakshi in the eponymous television series “Byomkesh Bakshi” (1993-1997), which became immensely popular and is still remembered fondly by Indian audiences. His portrayal of the intelligent and astute detective is considered one of the best adaptations of the character.
