Plot
Under the alias Tariq Hussain, Amandeep “Aman” Singh IPS, a deep cover RAW field agent, is in Pakistan in 1971 on an undercover mission. Aman meets a blind girl named Nasreen Hussain along the journey, and the two end up getting married. Pakistan surreptitiously hurried to develop its own nuclear weapon with the assistance of nuclear engineer Abdul Qadeer Khan after India’s first nuclear test in May 1974.
During the 1977 Indian general election campaign, RAW Chief R. N. Kao assesses the situation and gives Prime Minister Indira Gandhi instructions to locate the nuclear facility. Kao gives Aman the assignment. Sharma, Aman’s handler, tells him about his new mission, “Mission Majnu”. Two additional RAW agents, Aslam Usmaniya and Raman Singh (who goes by the alias Maulvi Saab) and are based in Pakistan, are encountered by Aman along the route. Aman is successful in obtaining proof that Pakistan is, in fact, producing nuclear weapons.
A new government is created in India after a general election, and the new prime minister and leader, Morarji Desai, opposes all forms of warfare, including espionage and intelligence gathering, and favours fostering connections through diplomacy and nonviolent means. To continue the operation in Pakistan while keeping it a secret from the prime minister, Kao steps down. Israel is preparing an attack on the military installation in Quetta in the meantime because it mistakenly thinks it is a nuclear weapons complex. Although Aman finds the nuclear plant in Kahuta, he is unable to gather tangible proof.
Sharma learns that in 48 hours, Israel would launch an attack on Quetta. Aman returns to Kahuta and gathers the hair of Army employees who work in the nuclear site. He then secretly delivers the hair to India, where it is analysed and shown to contain radioactive traces, indicating that plutonium is present in Kahuta. The attack on Quetta by Israel is prevented. Desai is informed of the situation in light of fresh information, and he offers his opinion on Pakistan’s incapacity to be trusted as well as Pakistan’s counterparts. Aman’s coworkers Aslam and Raman are among the clandestine RAW agents that the ISI tracks down and eliminates while they are in Pakistan.
Unaware that ISI officers are pursuing them, Aman attempts to flee to Dubai with Nasreen, who is pregnant. Aman is killed while diverting ISI agents long enough for Nasreen to board an aircraft and depart without incident. After landing in Dubai, Nasreen meets Kao at the airport and discovers his true identity in a letter from Aman. After reading the letter, she breaks down, and the film concludes with her sobbing as she remembers her love.
