Raam Reddy, an Indian filmmaker, writer, and photographer, marked his directorial debut with the 2016 Kannada film “Thithi.” The film premiered at the 68th Locarno International Film Festival on August 8, 2015, and achieved acclaim by winning the Golden Leopard in the “Filmmakers of the Present” category and the First Feature award.
“Thithi” garnered numerous accolades at various film festivals, including the Prabhat-Best International Director at Pune International Film Festival, awards at Palm Springs, Mumbai, and Marrakech. It was also selected for the 45th edition of New Directors/New Films and earned recognition at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival, winning Best Script Writer and Best Film awards under the Asia New Talent Awards Category. The film secured the German Star of India award for Best Feature Film at the 13th Indian Film Festival Stuttgart, Germany. At the 63rd National Film Awards, “Thithi” received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada.
Raam Reddy’s journey began at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, followed by studies in Film Direction at Prague Film School. Prior to “Thithi,” he wrote and directed several short films, including the notable Telugu short film “Ika,” which garnered multiple awards and screenings at over 20 international film festivals. At the age of 21, Raam authored his first book, “It’s Raining in Maya.”
In the realm of photography, Raam Reddy showcased his wildlife photography exhibition at the age of 16 at the Time and Space Art Gallery. The proceeds from the exhibition were directed towards the Asian Nature Conservation Foundation (ANCF).
Raam Reddy’s achievements were recognized by Forbes in February 2016 when he was included in the prestigious 30 Under 30 list of achievers.
