Oka Manasu

Story:

Oka Manasu (transl. One Heart) is a 2016 Telugu movie penned and directed by G. V. Rama Raju. It stars Naga Shourya and Niharika Konidela in the lead roles, with Niharika making her acting and Telugu film debut. The movie was released globally on June 24, 2016.

Plot

Sandhya, a medical student, falls deeply in love at first sight with Surya, a young man with political aspirations. While waiting for an opportunity to enter local politics, Surya is involved in minor disputes. Sandhya becomes aware of the challenges ahead when she witnesses Surya’s confrontations. Despite her mother’s suggestion for Surya to leave politics for Sandhya’s sake, Surya persists due to his father’s desire to see him become an M.L.A.

When a settlement leads to serious allegations against Surya, resulting in his arrest, Sandya decides to wait for him. However, her mother convinces her to move from Vijaya Nagaram to Vizag in hopes of starting afresh. Three years later, Surya is released on bail with the help of his uncle, who is an M.L.A. in Vizag. Surya discovers that a former friend has betrayed him for political gain, leading to a confrontation.

Surya’s father appoints Satya, a pragmatic man, as his advisor. Surya and Satya develop a close friendship. In Vizag, Surya reunites with Sandya, who refuses to leave him despite his situation. They start a live-in relationship against her mother’s wishes. As Surya becomes involved in his uncle’s election campaign, he protects his uncle from an attack, impressing him enough to offer Surya a chance to contest as an M.L.A., but with the condition that he marry his spoiled, divorced daughter.

Despite pressure from his father and Satya, Surya refuses to betray Sandya. To protect her, he lies about his bail being cancelled and asks her to move on without him. Sandya refuses to give up on him and promises to wait forever. After learning the truth through Surya’s father, Sandya decides to leave him under the condition that he fulfills his ambitions and spends a few days with her.

After two days, Surya discovers that Sandya has committed suicide, leaving a note expressing her love and her intention to wait for him in the afterlife. The film ends with Surya reminiscing about her at her gravesite.
