Biography:

Don Max is an accomplished filmmaker from India, specializing in directing and editing, particularly in the domains of Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu cinema. His significance lies in his role as a modern film editor within the Malayalam film industry, where he has introduced innovative editing techniques. Born on November 16, 1980, in Mundakayam, Kottayam District, Kerala, he is the eldest child of K. L. Varghese and T. V. Chinamma. Don Max’s formative years were marked by a relocation from Idukki district to Pallickathode, Anickad, where he pursued his education at St. Thomas schools. His academic journey led him to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas College, Palai, and he further honed his skills with a Diploma in Multimedia and Animation from Arena Animations, Bangalore.

Don Max embarked on his professional journey by starting as an editor for advertising films and television channels. His initial focus was on animation, but his passion for the creative possibilities of editing soon took center stage. His career path included a stint at Ketan Mehta’s Institute and a role at the Prime Time channel in Dubai. He eventually delved into editing for the Malayalam channel, Kairali. His expertise expanded to encompass crafting trailers for over fifty films, marking a significant step in his journey.

In the realm of film editing, Don Max made a mark as a senior editor with Shaji Kailas’s film “The Tiger” in 2005. A notable pioneer, he was among the first Malayalam editors to explore location-based editing. His prowess extended to editing V. K. Prakash’s “Moonnamathoral” (2006), the pioneering digital cinema in the Malayalam domain. Additionally, he engaged in Tamil film projects, contributing his skills to high-budget productions such as “Aadhavan” (2009), “Sura” (2010), and “Ponnar Shankar” (2011). The accolades continued with his acclaimed work on “Jilla” (2014), where his editing finesse was highlighted by critics.

In 2014, Don Max embarked on his directorial journey, collaborating with actor Anoop Menon for his debut film “10 Kalpanakal,” which was released on November 25, 2016. This marked a significant shift in his career from editing to directing, showcasing his versatile talents in the cinematic landscape.
