Lingusamy was born on November 14, 1967, and was raised in the Tamil Nadu town of Kumbakonam. He assisted A. Venkatesh and Vikraman at work.
With the Mammootty-starring Tamil family drama Aanandham, he made his directorial debut.
Linguswamy stated this in regards to the movie: “The movie is genuinely based on real life. I was impressed by the incidents my mother told me about growing up in a big family. They were ingrained in my memory, and I planned to employ them if I ever had the opportunity to direct a movie. So, when Mr. Chowdhry gave me the chance, I told the stories, and he thought they were quite interesting. Thirupathi Brothers was the project’s original working title, which Linguswamy eventually used to name his production company. When Aanandham debuted in May 2001, it received favorable reviews, with one critic stating that it “is a promising work from the debutant director.”
The film won several awards including the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Tamil, Cinema Express Award for Best Film – Tamil, and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, while, The Hindu listed the film amongst the best of 2001
