He was born in Tamil Nadu. Manoj stated that his father UV Babu, who has directed more than six Telugu films, “was the one who wanted me to become a cinematographer.” He would go to shootings with his father and claimed to be “fascinated by cinematography, the mystery of the camera and lights.”He was trained by the cinematographer S. Saravanan while attending the M.G.R. Government Film and Television Training Institute of Tamil Nadu in Chennai. Before being independent, Manoj began his career as an assistant in films like Pammal K. Sambandam, Arasatchi, Priyamana Thozhi, Madhurey, Thirupaachi, and Thirupathi, as well as others in Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil. He gave him assistance for seven years.
Eeram, directed by Arivazhagan, and produced by renowned filmmaker S. Shankar under his S Pictures company, served as Manoj’s feature film debut. He garnered a lot of positive reviews for his performance in the movie. Manoj Paramahamsa’s camera, according to Sify, is the movie’s true hero. As a cameraman, he can use Cyan to give the entire movie a hazy blue appearance by removing red from white light for the first time in Tamil cinema, resulting in an eerie ambience and stillness in contrast to the rain’s relentless battering. Rediff also stated that Manoj Paramahamsa’s camerawork is “refreshing” since it is “serious and sombre, with rain always threatening in some form in the present; normal and sunny in the Trichy flashback sequences.”
He worked on the Telugu version of Ye Maaya Chesave of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s 2010 romance film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer – South. In Menon’s psychological thriller Nadunisi Naaygal, starring Sameera Reddy, he also oversaw cinematography. He participated in the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots, Nanban, under the direction of S. Shankar.
He made his production debut with the action movie Poovarasam Peepee. After Beast and Nanban, he is currently working with Vijay on Leo.
