Lakshmi Ramakrishnan is an Indian actress and director who began her career with the Malayalam film “Chakkara Muthu” in 2006. She primarily appeared in supporting roles in Tamil films. Born and raised in a Tamil Brahmin family in Palakkad, Kerala, she became engaged at 16 and married at 18.
Before pursuing a career in acting and directing in India, Ramakrishnan ran an event management business in Muscat, Oman from 1992 to 2001. Her first Tamil film was “Pirivom Santhippom” (2008) directed by Karu Pazhaniappan, where she played Sneha’s mother. Subsequently, she took on supporting roles in several films, including a memorable performance in Mysskin’s “Yuddham Sei” (2011) as an angry mother seeking vengeance for her daughter’s death, for which she even shaved her head.
She has also worked in television, appearing in the serial “Aval” on STAR Vijay and hosting 1500 episodes of the reality show “Solvathellam Unmai” on Zee Tamil. Additionally, she has been featured in over 25 TV commercials.
In 2012, Ramakrishnan completed her first feature film, “Aarohanam,” which was praised for its sensitive portrayal of mental illness and received a Special Jury award at the 7th Vijay Awards. Her fourth directorial venture, “House Owner,” was one of only two Tamil movies selected for the flagship component of the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in 2019.
