Janaki Sabesh supported Simi Garewal with her documentary on Rajiv Gandhi, India’s Rajiv, in 1991. She made her professional acting debut as a nun in the film Minsara Kanavu, starring Kajol and Arvind Swamy. She later went on to play Aishwarya Rai’s mother in Shankar’s magnum work Jeans. Since then, she has appeared in over 25 films, including the blockbuster hits Minnale and Ghilli, in which she frequently plays the character of a mother.To name a few, she has modelled for Cadburys, Pepsodent, KFJ, NAC jewellers, Chakra Gold Tea, and Jansons Dhoti. She has also appeared in a web serial titled Black Sheep on Stray Factory’s YouTube channel, Rascalas.Janaki has performed in productions with the Chennai-based theatre companies Crea-Shakti and Madras Players.Janaki Sabesh’s involvement with children began when she created “The Learning Train” (1995), an audio tape that simplified the world of numbers via tale and song.
Golpo – Tales Unlimited is her own storytelling venture. Golpo translates to “story” in Bengali. Her workshops are a dynamic blend of narration, music, and dance. She also gives courses for parents, teachers, and students on motivation and the effective use of storytelling.Janaki Sabesh became an author in 2018 with the publication of her debut picture book, “The Jungle Storytelling Festival,” by Tulika in nine languages. Paati’s Rasam (co-written with Dhwani Sabesh) won the Best Children’s Book Award at Jarul 2023 and was also shortlisted for the Neev Book Awards 2022.
