Devi Chandana is a highly regarded Indian film actress primarily known for her outstanding work in Malayalam cinema. She is not only a talented actress but also an accomplished dancer with a significant presence in both television and stage performances. Born on April 24, 1982, in Thiruvananthapuram, Devi Chandana is the daughter of B. Vasudevan Pillai, a school teacher, and Jalaja Vasudevan, a bank officer. She also has a brother named Charu Agaru, who is a Koodiyattom exponent. Devi Chandana received her education from various schools and colleges in Alappuzha and went on to complete her graduation and post-graduation from St. Joseph’s College for Women, Alappuzha. After marriage, she pursued her passion for Bharata Natyam, earning her BA in the art form from St. Theresa’s College in Cochin and an MA in Bharata Natyam from RLV Tripunithura.
Devi Chandana’s career has been multifaceted, encompassing acting, dance, and teaching. She made her acting debut with the Tamil film “Kannukkul Nilavu” and went on to feature in more than 50 Malayalam films and two Tamil films. Additionally, she has been a prominent presence in numerous television serials and stage shows, both within India and internationally. Her proficiency extends to various dance forms, including Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Ottan Thullal, and Kathakali, among others. She received training from esteemed gurus in these disciplines, including RLV Anilkumar, RLV Pradip Kumar, and Kalamandalam Kavitha Krishnakumar.
Apart from her artistic pursuits, Devi Chandana is married to the renowned singer and stage performer Kishore Varma. She has also served as a faculty member for Bharatanatyam at St. Theresa’s College in Ernakulam. Currently, she holds the position of director at the Nrupalaya School of Performing Arts and the Swaralaya Institution for Dance & Music in Ambalappuzha. Her dedication to the arts and her contributions to the cultural landscape of Kerala have solidified her reputation as a multifaceted and accomplished artist.
