A. Sarkunam, an esteemed Indian film director in the Tamil industry, began his journey as an associate with director A.L Vijay. He made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy “Kalavani” (2009), starring Vimal and Oviya, earning praise and emerging as a sleeper hit.
His subsequent project, the period piece “Vaagai Sooda Vaa” (2011), featuring Vimal, garnered positive reviews and received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil.
Sarkunam expressed that “Vaagai Sooda Vaa” was his initial script and dream project. Following this success, he directed the romantic comedy “Naiyaandi” (2013) with Dhanush and Nazriya Nazim in the lead roles.
In 2014, Sarkunam established the production company “A Sarkunam Cinemaz,” introducing his brother, A. Nandha Kumar, as a producer.
Their inaugural production, “Manjapai,” directed by Sarkunam’s former assistant N. Raghavan, marked a significant venture.
Subsequently, his fourth film, “Chandi Veeran” (2015), produced by Bala and starring Atharvaa and Anandhi, received positive reviews and bore resemblances to his debut film, “Kalavani.”
