Biography:

Darshan Jariwala, born on September 29, 1958, is a distinguished Indian actor known for his work in Hindi films, television, and stage performances. His noteworthy portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in the 2007 film “Gandhi, My Father” earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, propelling him onto the international stage.

Born to veteran Gujarati actress Leela Jariwala and Vidyasagar Jariwala, Darshan has left an indelible mark on both the film and television industries in India. His talents extend beyond acting, with significant contributions to Gujarati plays such as “Hatheli Par BaadBaaki,” “Patro Mitro,” “Mulraj Mansion,” and “Andhalo Pato.” Additionally, he has showcased his versatility in Hindi and English theatre productions, including the play “Uncle Samjha Karo” and the English theatre piece “Going Solo 2.”

Darshan Jariwala’s career took a leap with the 2014 release of the Abhishek Jain-directed Gujarati film “Bey Yaar,” marking his foray into contemporary Gujarati cinema. His company, Leela Theatres, has been involved in co-producing various theatrical works, including the English play “Salt & Pepper” and the English comedy “Your Place Or Mine?” along with the Gujarati double bill “Ramesh Aakhi Raat.”

In the realm of Hindi cinema, Darshan has left an imprint with roles in films like “Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd,” “Guru,” “Aap Kaa Surroor,” “Phata Poster Nikla Hero,” and “Humshakals.”

Feroz Abbas Khan, the director of “Gandhi, My Father” and a veteran theatre personality, recognized Darshan Jariwala’s acting prowess. Initially approached for the role of Gandhi in the play “Mahatma v/s Gandhi,” Darshan had to decline due to scheduling conflicts. However, Khan was determined to cast him as Gandhi and later successfully approached him for the film “Gandhi, My Father.”

In his personal life, Darshan Jariwala married Indian television personality Apara Mehta in 1982, with whom he has a daughter. Despite living separately since 2003 due to personal differences, they have not officially divorced. Since 2010, Darshan has been in a live-in relationship with Anahita Jahanbaksh Italia.
