Biography:

Viswanathan Ravichandran, also known as Venu Ravichandran, is a prominent Indian film producer and distributor based in Chennai, India. He is the founder and owner of the renowned production and distribution company, Aascar Films Pvt. Ltd (formerly known as Oscar Films). Ravichandran ventured into film production in 1998, co-producing the successful Tamil film “Kadhalukku Mariyadhai.” His career has since seen him produce numerous high-budget Tamil language films and distribute various English films across South India.

Before establishing himself as a film producer, Ravichandran made a name for himself as a leading film distributor in the Tamil cinema industry, starting in the late 1970s. He gained recognition for distributing Jackie Chan’s films in Tamil Nadu. Ravichandran made his producer debut with Fazil’s romantic drama “Kadhalukku Mariyadhai” in 1997. The film, co-produced with Sangili Murugan, became a major success, marking the beginning of his successful journey in film production. His subsequent ventures, including Vikraman’s “Vaanathaippola” (2000), Ezhil’s “Poovellam Un Vasam” (2001), and Sasi’s “Roja Koottam” (2002), also achieved considerable commercial success.

One of his most ambitious projects was the romantic thriller “I” (2015), directed by Shankar and starring Vikram in the lead role. This film, known for its high production costs and grand scale, took three years to complete and involved thousands of people in its making. Despite the challenges, “I” turned out to be a profitable venture for Ravichandran, showcasing his ability to produce diverse and successful films. Despite his significant presence in the film industry, Ravichandran is known for his privacy and prefers to avoid being photographed, maintaining a low profile at promotional events and in his personal life.
