Chimbu Devan is an Indian film director recognized for his roles as a writer, cartoonist, and screenwriter. His cinematic works predominantly delve into fantasy, historical, and comedic genres. He marked his debut with the historical comedy-drama movie “Imsai Arasan 23 M Pulikesi.”
Deven’s career kicked off as an assistant director on Cheran’s 2000 film “Vetri Kodi Kattu.” His first opportunity as an independent director came through S Pictures, leading to the 2006 film “Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikecei.” The concept of the film was presented to director S. Shankar, who showed interest and decided to collaborate with Deven. His second venture was the 2008 fantasy comedy “Arai En 305-il Kadavul,” featuring Santhanam and Ganja Karuppu in key roles. His third film, “Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam,” released in 2010 as a western comedy, starred Raghava Lawrence and Padmapriya as the main cast.
In 2015, Deven both wrote and directed “Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaanikalum,” featuring Arulnithi. He also directed “Puli” the same year, starring Vijay in the lead, with Sudeep portraying the antagonist. The movie marked the Tamil comeback of the late actress Sridevi, while Shruti Haasan and Hansika Motwani played lead roles. Produced by P. T. Selvakumar and Shibu from Thameens Films, the film had its soundtrack composed by Devi Sri Prasad and was released on 1 October 2015.
In 2021, Devan was involved in the co-production of “Kasada Thapara” alongside Venkat Prabhu. The movie’s narrative is divided into six sections, each showcasing distinct technical elements. It’s a collection of interconnected short stories presented through a hyperlinked narrative structure.
