Neeraj Pandey, born on December 17, 1973, is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his work in Hindi cinema. He gained acclaim with his directorial debut, A Wednesday!, which received widespread praise from critics and earned numerous accolades. His subsequent films include Special 26 (2013) and Baby (2015), both of which garnered critical acclaim and commercial success.
In addition to directing, Pandey is also a writer and authored the novel Ghalib Danger in 2013. He co-founded the production house Friday Filmworks, which later entered into a joint venture with Reliance Entertainment to form Plan C Studios. Pandey has also ventured into web content, directing the web short ‘Ouch’ and presenting/directing the web series Special Ops on Hotstar in 2020.
Born and raised in Howrah, West Bengal, Pandey completed his schooling from St. Aloysius High School and St. Thomas’ High School. He later graduated in English from Sri Aurobindo College, University of New Delhi.
Pandey began his career with Legacy Entertainment in Delhi before moving to Mumbai in 2000. He initially worked on documentaries and ad films before co-founding Quarter Inch Productions, specializing in television programs, ad films, and documentaries. In 2008, he co-founded Friday Filmworks, which produced his debut film, A Wednesday!.
Throughout his career, Pandey has demonstrated versatility by producing films in different genres, including comedy, drama, and biopic. He has collaborated with renowned actors such as Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, and Kajal Aggarwal, among others.
Currently, Pandey is working on his next feature film, Chanakya, continuing to leave his mark on the Indian film industry with his distinct storytelling style and impactful narratives.
