TheatreThe romantic sports action movie Okkadu, which translates to “The One and Only,” was written and directed by Gunasekhar in 2003. Prakash Raj, Bhumika Chawla, and Mahesh Babu are its main actors. M.S. Raju produced the movie, Mani Sharma provided the soundtrack, and A. Sreekar Prasad handled the editing. The movie recounts the story of Kabaddi player Ajay, who saves Swapna from political faction leader Obul Reddy when the latter attempts to kidnap her forcibly.
PLOT:
The son of DGP Vijay Varma, Kabbadi player Ajay Varma, who resides in Hyderabad, travels to Kurnool to compete in a state-level competition. Ajay intervenes in Kurnool to protect Swapna Reddy from the perilous faction leader Obul Reddy, who is in love with Swapna and wants to wed her against her will. After Obul killed her siblings because they disapproved of his interest in their sister due to the age difference, Ajay discovers that Swapna is attempting to travel to the US to live with her uncle and continue her education.
Ajay humiliates Obul by throwing him into a mud puddle while protecting Swapna. Until Swapna is located and returned home, Obul will not remove the mud. Swapna is helped to flee by Ajay, who then brings her to his home in the Old City and hides her there with the aid of his sister Asha. But Ajay’s parents learn she is hunkering down in their home. Swapna and Ajay escape once more, and ultimately she develops feelings for him. The police surround the Charminar where Ajay has concealed Swapna the following day, under the direction of his father Vijay. The group arrives at the airport with Ajay’s friends in preparation to go to the US. Before she leaves, they bring her parents to visit her one final time.
Ajay realizes he loves Swapna after she made it through airport security, at which point she appears and proposes to him while giving him a hug. Vijay detains Ajay at the airport as Obul’s men take Swapna away. Later on, Swapna teases Obul by claiming that Ajay will undoubtedly come get her. In response, Obul goes to the prison and invites Ajay to accompany him. Vijay claims that he is more concerned for Obul than he is for Ajay. Ajay, who is present at the national Kabaddi championship finals with his cronies, kidnaps Obul and his goons.
At the location of Obul’s marriage to Swapna, Siva Reddy, who also serves as the state’s Home Minister, is waiting. Siva, Swapna, and his mother arrive at the stadium where Ajay and Obul are engaged in combat after knowing of his whereabouts. While Swapna’s mother is killed by a bomb, Swapna’s father stabs Obul. Siva Reddy chooses not to respond for fear of jeopardizing his status as a minister, and Ajay, whose team won the game, celebrates with Swapna and his family. Ajay and Swapna eventually marry and have a happy life together.
