Story:

“Madras Cafe” is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language political action thriller directed by Shoojit Sircar. The film stars John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri, and newcomer Raashi Khanna in lead roles. Set in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it revolves around the Indian intervention in the Sri Lankan civil war and the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The story follows an Indian Army special officer who is tasked by the intelligence agency R&AW to lead covert operations in Jaffna after the Indian peace-keeping force withdraws. Released on August 23, 2013, the film did above-average business at the box office.

“Madras Cafe” received critical acclaim and won the National Film Award for Best Audiography for its exceptional sound recording and design. It’s a gripping tale of espionage, political intrigue, and the consequences of war, told against the backdrop of real historical events.
