In the 1978 Tamil film Bairavi, in which she played Rajinikanth’s sister, Geetha made her acting debut. When she was chosen for the movie, she was a seventh-grader. Later, she gave up her education to focus on her acting career.The Hindu called her “one of Malayalam cinema’s landmark heroines” for her portrayal of Indira in the 1986 Malayalam film Panchagni, which was based on the real-life narrative of a Naxalite revolutionary named Ajitha. She gained popularity as a Malayalam actress in the same year that she had additional Malayalam releases, like Sukhamo Devi, Kshamichu Ennoru Vakku, Aavanazhi, Geetham, etc. For Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, she received the State Award for the second best actress in 1989.
She appeared in a number of well-known Kannada films with Rajkumar, Ananth Nag, Vishnuvardhan, and Ambareesh. Dhruva Thare, Devatha Manushya, Anuraga Aralithu, Shruthi Seridaaga, and Aakasmika alongside Rajkumar are a few of her well-known films. Other films are Eradu Rekhegalu, Mareyada Manikya, Mrugaalaya, Veeradhi Veera, Mithileya Seethayaru, Nenapina Doni, Bairavi, Shiva Mecchida, Giri Baale, Ramanna Shamanna, Goonda Guru, Nigooda Rahasya, Ramapurada Ravana, Prachanda Kulla, Hrudaya Pallavi, Daada, Aaradhane, Shabarimale Swamy Ayyappa and Aruna Raaga. She and Ambareesh developed a successful romantic relationship and appeared in over fifteen films together.
In addition, Geetha performed in two K. Balachander-directed Tamil serials: Kai Alavu Manasu and Engirindho Vanthaal. She has also appeared in Tamil TV shows including Rajakumari, where she recently played Ramya Krishnan’s mother, and Katha Kathayaam Karanamaam. Both of these shows were broadcast on Sun TV. She appeared in K. Viswanath’s Sagara Sangamam in a cameo as Kamal Haasan’s dance partner for the song “Ve Vela Gopemmala.”
