Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty is an Indian action thriller film in Hindi, crafted and directed by A. R. Murugadoss, featuring Akshay Kumar as a dedicated army officer. The ensemble cast includes Sonakshi Sinha, Freddy Daruwala, Sumeet Raghavan, and Govinda in a special appearance. The film’s gripping soundtrack is composed by Pritam. It’s an authorized adaptation of Murugadoss’ own Tamil film Thuppakki from 2012, revolving around an Indian Army officer who embarks on a mission during his vacation in Mumbai to track down and neutralize the terrorist leader of a sleeper cell network and dismantle the cells under his command.

Kumar’s Hari Om Entertainment signed on for the story after being impressed by Murugadoss’s initial action sequence, even before the script was fully developed. Due to scheduling conflicts, Kumar allowed Murugadoss to proceed with making the Tamil version, which eventually became Thuppakki. Production for the film, initially titled Pistol, commenced in 2013 under Hari Om Entertainment and Sunshine Pictures.

The movie hit theaters worldwide on June 6, 2014. With a budget of ₹500 million, it garnered positive reviews from critics, particularly praising Kumar’s portrayal, the screenplay, and the riveting action sequences. It emerged as one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2014, raking in over ₹178.4 crore globally. Kumar received a Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare Awards for his performance.
