Plot
Keerthi is a successful wrestler. Her own parents don’t want her to wrestle because it will make getting married much more difficult, even if her uncle Ganesan supports her. Additionally, Keerthi declines grooms who request dowries from her family. Ganesan is visiting his friend Ratnam, who is looking for a match for his nephew Veera. Veera has high expectations for a wife, including being obedient, having long hair, and not having more education than him (he just finished the eighth grade). He suggests that Keerthi and Veera form an alliance since he wants to support her and her family. Keerthi grudgingly consents to placate her father despite being incensed about the circumstances under which she must pretend.
After a disagreement with Dass, the local political leader, Veera threatens Keerthi and imprisons Ratnam. When they go to a temple, Dass attacks Veera and corners him, but Keerthi saves him and reveals who she really is. She cautions Dass that in order to harm Veera, he must go through her. In the village, Keerthi gains respect, and Veera obediently follows her example out of fear of being harmed by her. After being released from prison, Ratnam learns about Keerthi. When he visits her home and disparages her newly respected status and persona, Keerthi slaps him out of rage, and Veera slaps Keerthi without understanding why.
When Keerthi learns that she has been signed up for a wrestling competition, she yells at Ganesan because she thinks he did it. But her father admits that he enrolled her so she could be herself. Keerthi won’t comply till Veera serves her divorce papers. Ratnam submitted the documents without either of them knowing. Ratnam presses Veera to sign up for the competition. Lusting for her, Lokesh, Keerthi’s coach, consents to enroll Veera and arrange a match between him and Keerthi in order to boost business prospects. Veera discovers a coach who is eager to train him and gains a greater respect for Keerthi after witnessing the struggles and hardships faced by women.Instead of speaking with Ratnam, he runs into his aunt, who is Ratnam’s wife.
She asks Keerthi why she consented to the marriage after disclosing that she was aware of the truth about her. Keerthi acknowledged her deep affection for Veera. After that, he tries to make amends with Keerthi, but Lokesh tricks her into thinking she doesn’t want to talk to him.
The doctors inform Lokesh on the day of the battle that Keerthi is pregnant and cannot compete. However, Lokesh demands that the match continue and won’t inform her. On the wrestling grounds, Keerthi and Veera square off, but she soon passes out. When Veera wants to accompany her to the hospital, Lokesh forces him to stay in order to battle another female wrestler.
He complies when Veera, enraged by his meddling, demands that he solely fight Lokesh. After gaining the upper hand against Veera, Lokesh teases him by disclosing Keerthi’s pregnancy. Enraged, Veera battles Lokesh until he is defeated and seriously hurt. He then speaks to the media about how women struggle so hard to achieve their goals yet face so many challenges, and how he ought to have supported Keerthi more.
When Veera visits the hospital where Keerthi is recuperating, she learns about the divorce documents. He says he doesn’t want a divorce and exposes Ratnam’s deception. Keerthi still does, though, because she wants their child to have the same opportunity to pursue a career in wrestling as she did. After their child is born, Veera assures Keerthi that she can still pursue her career and pledges to help her. She says that going forward, she just needs to battle her opponent rather than her family. The pair makes amends. Later on, Veera and their daughter support Keerthi as she prevails in another wrestling battle.
