TheatreMerlapaka Gandhi is the writer and director of the 2016 Telugu-language romantic comedy thriller Express Raja. Produced by V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under their production company UV Creations, the film stars Harish Uthaman, Prabhas Sreenu, Sapthagiri, Urvashi, Supreeth, and Brahmaji in supporting parts alongside Sharwanand and Surbhi in the key roles. Praveen Lakkaraju composed the soundtrack, while Karthik Ghattamaneni handled the photography. The movie’s global premiere fell on January 14, 2016, the day of the Sankranthi celebration.
Inumu is introduced at the start of the movie as a strange burglar who only takes things made of iron. Next, it shows Raja, Sreenu, and Giri robbing a pet dog and running away. The movie then cuts to a flashback in which Raja and Sreenu are both unemployed and a continual cause of annoyance for their fathers. Raja’s dad works as a social activist and teacher. He and his companion raise funds for a non-governmental organization that treats children. The local area inspector believes vagrants are a menace to society, so he rounds up Raja and Sreenu for being vagrants. He gives them the order to depart for Hyderabad so they can work at the employment he set up for them.
But as soon as they arrive in Hyderabad, Raja spots Amulya and falls in love with her. In an attempt to win her over, he then poses as an Oxford Dictionary salesperson. When he protects her from being harassed by several thugs, he ultimately gains her affection. Raja despises pets dogs, but Amulya adores them. As luck would have it, Raja gives her pet puppy to the local municipal corporation just as Amulya is ready to propose to him. Amulya breaks up with Raja in a furious manner. In an attempt to win her love back, Raja searches for the dog and discovers it in a pet store, where the owner demands payment.
Lacking money, Raja and Seenu convince Bill Gates by selling an unprecedented quantity of dictionaries in order to get the money they need from him. When they arrive at the pet store, Giri’s luggage gets swapped out for theirs amid the chaos. When they finally realize what’s going on, they go looking for Giri and discover that he burnt the bag because he believed it held the love letters his sister had received. Giri offers his apologies and pledges to carry out Raja and Seenu’s requests. When they all get to the pet store, they discover that the puppy has already been bought. They then start looking for the dog, and after a few fruitless searches, they eventually locate it in Binami British’s house.
The picture returns to the scene of the kidnapping, where they run away from the scene after stealing the dog.
After giving the puppy to Amulya, Raja learns that she is engaged to Kesava Reddy, a Kokila MLA from Nellore. The British arrest a distraught Raja in order to find the dog’s location. But Raja and Seenu manage to get away from the British and reach Nellore. But as soon as he gets there, Kesava Reddy’s gang finds him. Kesava Reddy believes that Raja is the cause of his mother’s memory loss in an automobile accident that happened during the chaos caused by the dog abduction.
Kesava Reddy pardons Raja since his mother warned him not to commit any crimes till after he was married. Raja finds Amulya’s lodging and elopes with her with her assistance thanks to Sreenu. When Keshava Reddy finds out, he goes after Raja. While traveling, Raja comes upon a dancing company and discovers that he has been using their car to flee the British. After that, they go to a local festival where they were supposed to participate in a dance program, but Kesava Reddy spots them on stage.
But Inumu’s mischievous behavior causes the stage where the dancers were performing to collapse, and Amulya is kidnapped by the British and Giri. Meanwhile, Kesava Reddy is out to exact revenge for his mother’s memory loss and his failed marriage. In return for Amulya, Raja and Sreenu find the pet dog and give it to the British. But Kesava Reddy imprisons them all, and Raja saves them when he uses the Oxford Dictionary to knock Kesava Reddy unconscious.
