Plot
Saumya and Dhruv are shown in the movie’s opening scene in the Devipur village police station in Uttarakhand, when Saumya accuses Dhruv of trying to kill her. The narrative jumps back to a previous instance in which Vidya Jyothi (VJ), a police officer, answers a call about domestic abuse but determines it was a false alarm. However, Saumya’s mother figure, Maaji, quietly admits that she called because she was worried about how her husband, Dhruv, was abusing her, even though Saumya chooses to keep quiet about it.
According to Maaji’s story, Saumya fell in love with Dhruv, who was the proprietor of a paragliding business in Devipur and the son of a minister. Shailee, Saumya’s identical twin sister, falls head over heels for Dhruv as she presents him to her family. Shailee’s hatred is fuelled by the fact that Saumya has always been given priority because they have been the focus of attention owing to multiple phobias and mental health difficulties since their mother’s death. Dhruv and Shailee begin dating, but because of Shailee’s erratic and audacious attitude, Dhruv begins to have second thoughts. A botched business deal also leads to his father pressuring him, controlling him, and trying to find a domestic partner. As a result, Dhruv weds Saumya, but Shailee keeps pursuing him, which leads to friction.
VJ finds out about Dhruv’s violent actions and the rivalry between the sisters. According to Maaji, Dhruv’s rage erupts and frequently results in physical abuse if Saumya discusses having a child. He throws her down the stairs in one instance, leaving her partially unconscious. VJ confronts Dhruv because he is determined to hold him accountable, but Dhruv maintains that her fall was unintentional. Saumya initially agrees, saying she wants to start over with him and doesn’t want to lose to Shailee.
In the hopes that Dhruv will repeat his original suggestion, Saumya suggests a paragliding excursion at home. While everything is going on, Maaji is gathering evidence against Dhruv, who ignores her advice to change his ways. A scene between Shailee and Dhruv during a Holi festival leads Saumya to take Dhruv paragliding. Dhruv’s harness malfunctions in midair, but they both barely make it out. Saumya accused Dhruv of attempting to kill her by releasing her harness and pushing her out, which led to Dhruv’s imprisonment. He is found guilty of attempted murder and domestic abuse based on strong evidence, and he is given a prison term.
VJ notices irregularities in the case’s specifics. She discovers that Saumya and Shailee planned a ruse: prior to the paragliding, they had switched places, with Shailee destroying the harness in midair and then joining Saumya in accusing Dhruv. Shailee claims that their acts were justified when VJ confronts them, exposing the family’s history of covert domestic abuse. She acknowledges that it was wrong to keep quiet about their mother’s suffering, and VJ considers domestic abuse to be a communal problem rather than just a personal one. The movie ends with Saumya finding closure after VJ withdraws her appeal, believing that not always following the text is correct, and admits Dhruv’s guilt.
