Plot
Govind is living under the strict control of Rai Bahadur and his family at the start of the movie. He receives harsh punishment in the first scene for allegedly riding Rai Bahadur’s horses, a privilege that is exclusive to the elite class. The severe socioeconomic injustices that are common in the area are brought to light by this tragedy. When Govind pours Holi colors on Janaki, Rai Bahadur’s daughter, his life takes an unexpected turn. Govind flees, fearing harsher punishment, but the Baagi crew, commanded by Vikram Singh, finds him.
The tale of Vikram, a local rebel against Rai Bahadur’s atrocities, runs parallel to Govind’s. Tej, the son of Rai Bahadur, is forced to marry Kesar, Vikram’s ex-girlfriend. She covertly stays in touch with Vikram despite her forced marriage, meeting him years later. Vikram is ultimately killed in an attack after being betrayed by a member of his own gang. He gives Govind the task of taking care of Azaad, a lovely horse, before he passes away.
At first, Govind has a hard time connecting with Azaad. But Govind eventually gains the horse’s trust thanks to Janaki’s assistance, who treats him with compassion and understanding. In addition to fostering love, this shared experience helps Govind and Janaki overcome their disparate socioeconomic classes. Govind declines James’s offer to purchase Azaad because he values the relationship he has developed with the animal. James is the son of a British politician. Because of this disobedience, James tries to forcibly send Azaad to England for training, Rai Bahadur takes further measures, and Govind receives another beating.
Just as Azaad is ready to be dragged away, Govind and Janaki are able to save him. They flee together and compete in a local horse race. Govind perseveres and prevails in spite of several challenges, including Tej Bahadur’s effort to hurt Azaad during the race. The race has extremely high stakes because the people in Govind’s hamlet would have been compelled to work as slaves in factories if he had lost. In addition to saving his village from this fate, Govind’s win over the landowner’s predatory scheme represents a victory against injustice and oppression.
