TheatreK. Raghavendra Rao directed the Telugu action film Aswamedham in 1992. With music by Ilaiyaraaja, it stars Nandamuri Balakrishna, Shobhan Babu, Meena, and Nagma. Produced under the aegis of Vyjayanthi Movies by C. Aswani Dutt. The movie didn’t do well in the box office.
The movie was adapted into Tamil as Dharma Bhoomi and Hindi as Akhiri Intaqam.
The movie opens with the heroic police officer SP Abhimanyu apprehending the demonic terrorist Vyaghra. As a result, his steadfastness is honoured and the entire police department is filled with pride. Together with his dashing brother Kiriti and expectant wife Lakshmi, Abhimanyu creates a jovial universe. After some time, Rayudu and Avinash, two of Vyaghra’s acolytes, help him escape. Investigative journalist Sowjanya is the one behind these cunning plans to expose their rackets. During that procedure, she frequently gets to know Kiriti in a difficult situation and is saved by him when they fall in love.
But Kiriti and Sowjanya succeed in giving Abhimanyu all the proof against Vyaghra, which leads to Lakshmi’s kidnapping. Abhimanyu and Kiriti turn on him, and Abhimanyu kills Lakshmi Vyaghra with their shield. Startled, Vyaghra reappears here and claims to be Sunil Vyaghra, the twin brother of the late Anil Vyaghra. They have so far succeeded in fooling everyone by presenting themselves as a single entity. With a vengeful outburst, Vyaghra-II now swears to destroy Abhimanyu and Kiriti. He then proceeds to defame Abhimanyu as a traitor in front of the department by betraying his friend DSP Giri after he suffers great shame. Kiriti struggles in vain to clear him, and benumbed Abhimanyu ends his own life. He also receives the blessing of a boy child.
Thus, when they give Vyaghra a heavy blow, Kiriti ignites him. Kiriti’s boyhood friend Dr. Bharati comes to his rescue. Yes, she does love Kiriti as well, but she gives in because she knows he’s in love with Sowjanya. Then, in every state, Vyaghra hatches a grand scheme to destroy the nation. Furthermore, knowing that Kiriti has survived, he schemes to confirm his treachery by injecting him with a poison that kills slowly over the course of 24 hours. Even in the face of chaos, Kiriti gathers his strength and begins his murderous rampage. Bharati goes with him to help him get stronger and heal. Finally, Kiriti stops Vyaghra, and Bharati comes to his aid. Kiriti finally forces the country to honour Abhimanyu as the film comes to a close.
