Theatre“Allari Priyudu,” translated as “Naughty Lover,” is a Telugu-language musical romantic comedy film from 1993, directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. The movie features Rajasekhar, Ramya Krishna, and Madhu Bala in prominent roles. It had its premiere at the 1994 International Film Festival of India in the mainstream section.
This film is an adaptation of the Hindi movie “Saajan.” Additionally, it was dubbed into Tamil as “Yaarukku Mappillai Yaaro” and remade in Kannada as “Chora Chittha Chora,” starring V. Ravichandran, Namrata Shirodkar, and Malavika. “Allari Priyudu” achieved blockbuster status at the box office and received two Filmfare Awards and two Nandi Awards.
The film’s plot revolves around the deep friendship between Kavita and Lalita, who have been inseparable ever since Lalita’s father tragically lost his life while trying to save Kavita from a construction site accident. Lalita, in secret, writes heartfelt poems, which are especially cherished by Kavita.
Meanwhile, Raja, a struggling musician from a lower-class background, lives in a rented house with his friends, hoping that his band, owned by Babu Mohan, will eventually gain popularity. He pretends to have a significant job when communicating with his grandmother but holds onto the dream of his band’s success.
One day, Raja stumbles upon one of Lalita’s poems and falls head over heels in love with her. He writes a letter to Lalita, expressing his admiration for her poetry, and Lalita reciprocates her feelings after reading it. They engage in a heartfelt exchange of love letters.Unbeknownst to each other, Raja and Lalita become embroiled in a series of misunderstandings and clashes.
They remain oblivious to the fact that they are the secret admirers who have been exchanging love letters. Lalita eventually discovers that her beloved is Raja. However, as she is about to confess her love to him, she learns that Kavita has also fallen for Raja. In an effort not to jeopardize her relationship with Kavita, Lalita instructs Kavita to pose as the lady who has been corresponding with Raja.
Raja, unaware of the truth, believes Kavita to be the poetess behind the letters, and they fall in love. The remainder of the story revolves around whether Raja ever discovers that Lalita was the one writing the poems and letters to him. It also explores Kavita’s reaction when she learns the truth, forming the climax of the film.
