Early life:
A Tamil citizen, Madhoo. Her father had Padma Malini, her birth name, changed to Madhu Malini before she started school. She completed her education at the University of Mumbai and St. Joseph’s High School in Juhu. She is Esha Deol’s cousin because she is the actress Hema Malini’s niece.
On February 19, 1999, she wed Anand Shah, whom she had met while working on a picture shoot. Amaya and Keia, their two daughters, were born. The husband of Madhoo is the relative of Juhi Chawla’s wife, actress Jay Mehta.
Film career:
Her first film was K. Balachander’s Azhagan (1991), which also starred Mammootty, Bhanupriya, and Geetha. Action director Veeru Devgan had recruited Madhoo for his son Ajay Devgan’s acting debut in Phool Aur Kaante (1991).In Phool Aur Kaante (1991), she made her Hindi film debut alongside Ajay Devgn, another debutant. She made her acting debut in Ottayal Pattalam (1991), a Malayalam movie starring Mukesh. She rose to fame by playing the lead in Mani Ratnam’s Roja (1992). She made a reappearance in 2008’s Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha, a Hindi-language movie, and has been acting in supporting roles ever then. Her true name, Madhu, has appeared in 5 films.
In 2014, she returned to the Tamil film industry with Balaji Mohan’s bilingual Tamil-Malayalam film Vaayai Moodi Pesavum / Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram. Since August 2019, she has served as the host of the DD National music television programme Rangoli.
She has also contributed to TV shows like Kaveri, Devi, Soundaravalli, and Aarambh: Kahaani Devsena Ki. She has additionally participated in some reality shows as a guest judge.
