Vedam

“Vedam,” released in 2010, is an Indian Telugu-language anthology hyperlink film directed and written by Krish. Produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni under the Arka Media Works banner, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Allu Arjun, Anushka Shetty, Manchu Manoj, Manoj Bajpayee, Saranya Ponvannan, Nagayya, Deeksha Seth, and Lekha Washington. The film’s music was composed by M. M. Keeravani, and the cinematography was handled by Gnana Shekar V. S.

Belonging to the hyperlink cinema genre, “Vedam” received widespread critical acclaim and earned several awards, including four Filmfare Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. Film Companion even recognized it as one of the 25 Greatest Telugu Films of the Decade. Krish later remade the film in Tamil as “Vaanam” in 2011.

The film’s narrative revolves around five principal characters, with their stories interconnected:

Vivek Chakravarthy, an aspiring rock star in Bengaluru from a family of decorated army officers, is on the cusp of his first live concert in Hyderabad with his bandmates. However, he faces delays and decides to travel by road. During the journey, their tire punctures, leaving Vivek and Lasya alone as their friends search for a spare.

An encounter with a fanatic group ensues, but they manage to escape with the help of a truck driver, who has a prior altercation with Vivek. Despite these challenges, the band ultimately reaches Hyderabad. However, another accident occurs involving a pregnant woman, and Vivek and Lasya take her to a nearby hospital.

This intricate narrative sets the stage for multiple interconnected stories that delve into the lives and challenges faced by the characters. Each character’s journey unfolds with its own unique set of circumstances, adding depth and complexity to the overall narrative of “Vedam.”
