Lekha Washington

Lekha Washington is a versatile Indian personality who has made her mark as an actress, artist, and product designer, primarily working in Tamil and Telugu language films. Her journey to recognition began in 2002 when she gained attention for her work as a sculptor. Subsequently, she established herself as a theater actress, participating in stage plays in Chennai. Lekha’s career took an exciting turn when she ventured into the world of video jockeying with SS Music.

However, it was her breakthrough role as an independent estranged sister in the film “Jayamkondaan” (2008) that catapulted her into the spotlight. She continued to make a mark with her roles in multi-starrer projects like “Vedam” and the comedy film “Va.”

Early Life: Lekha Washington was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, to a father of mixed Burmese, Italian, and Punjabi heritage, and a Maharashtrian mother. Despite her diverse ancestry, Lekha considers herself South Indian due to her upbringing and speaks English and Marathi at home.

Her educational journey took her through Good Shepherd Convent in Chennai for her schooling. She then pursued a degree in Fine Arts at Stella Maris College, Chennai. Later, Lekha attended the National Institute of Design, where she initially focused on Lifestyle Product Design. However, her passion for filmmaking led her to reapply for the Film and Video Communication course. It was during her time at this institute that she decided to step in front of the camera rather than staying behind it.

While studying film-making, Lekha Washington also showcased her talent by creating three short films: “Spoonerism,” “Catch 22,” and “Sunn.” These projects took her to various locations, from Myanmar to Mauritius, demonstrating her versatility and dedication to her craft.
