Story:

Maanagaram is a 2017 action thriller film in the Tamil language from India, produced by S. R. Prabhu and written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The soundtrack for the movie was composed by Javed Riaz, and it stars Regina Cassandra, Sundeep Kishan, and Sri. Lokesh Kanagaraj is directing a feature film for the first time. On March 10, 2017, the movie was released to largely positive reviews from critics.

Plot
Sri, a recent engineering graduate from Trichy’s small town, travels to Chennai for a job interview in business process outsourcing (BPO) IT. After Sri passes his interview with HR representative Regina Cassandra, he and his friends celebrate at a bar. Since their time in college, Sundeep Kishan, another man working at the bar, has harbored an unfulfilled romantic interest for Regina. Goons threaten to hurl acid in Regina’s face in a flashback if she develops feelings for Sundeep.

Furious, Sundeep struck out at one of the thugs. Now, when Sundeep is in the bar, the goons identify him and get some gang members to beat him up. But when Sri exits the bar, the gang members mistake him for their intended victim and beat him until he passes out. They then take his phone and bag and throw the latter into a taxi. Charle drove a taxi that he had rented from gangster PKP to the city to get his son medical attention.

He takes his academic credentials to the police station after discovering Sri’s bag in his taxi. When he wakes up in the morning, Sri calls a friend to come get him. He takes a bus to his new workplace and explains that his academic credentials are missing. Sundeep rides the same bus to Regina’s workplace for a job interview. After identifying the thugs who had threatened Regina, he throws acid at him and makes off with his pals.

The police detain Sri after he unintentionally gave Sundeep the acid bottle. Sri, weary of the city’s animosity, quarrels with the police inspector, who beats him until a constable steps in. At a tea stall, the constable speaks with Sri. When Sri recognizes the man who instructed him to pass the acid bottle, the constable takes him into custody.

The gang members send a man named Winnings to fool Karthi’s teachers in order to kidnap the schoolboy and demand a ransom. When one of the five Karthi boys offers to accompany Winnings in order to avoid a math test, Winnings is ill-prepared. Once they take the boy, they discover he is the son of PKP, a gangster. He discovers Sri’s bag containing his academic credentials in his taxi and proceeds to the police station with them.

When Sri awakens in the street in the morning, he calls a friend to come get him. To explain about his missing academic certificates, he boards a bus to his new workplace. Sundeep gets on the same bus as Regina to go to her job interview. He attacks Regina with acid after identifying the thugs who threatened her and makes off with his pals. After inadvertently giving Sundeep the acid bottle, Sri is taken into custody by the police.

In order to avoid being held accountable for his resignation, she asks him to enroll in the company’s training. Sundeep, who is awaiting his interview, steps in when they start to argue. When the police show up and take Sundeep away, Regina is upset because she loves Sundeep but finds him too carefree. When Sri admits to Regina that he misplaced his academic credentials, she offers to fill in for him for a day.

In an attempt to find Karthi, PKP gives his goons orders to pursue his adversaries. After the gang demands ₹1 crore (10 million rupees) as ransom, PKP consents to comply with their demands. In the meantime, Sundeep’s uncle, the police inspector, releases him. At a bus stop outside Regina’s hostel, Sundeep waits for her. When Regina discovers Karthi hiding in a truck after escaping the kidnappers, she gives Sundeep the order to bring Karthi home.

When Sundeep calls PKP, his phone is not in use. After seeing his uncle, he leaves Karthi in the care of the police inspector. Fearful of PKP, Winnings confesses to the inspector about the kidnapping, and the inspector orders Winnings to complete the ransom transaction. As Sundeep gets there, he realizes what’s happening. The inspector attempts to shoot Winnings after shooting PKP, but Sundeep stabs the inspector in the leg and gives Winnings the order to transport Karthi and PKP to the hospital.

In the meantime, the gang stops and attacks Sri and Charle while they are in Charle’s taxi because they think they are PKP spies. They threaten to murder Charle if PKP is not brought by Sri. Sri fights back against the gang that he recognizes as his attackers from the bar in order to free Charle and allow him to care for his sick son. The academic credentials that Sri misplaced are sent back to his home address.

Sri and Sundeep each have a conversation with their girlfriends outside the hospital. Just as they are about to introduce themselves, a different gang that was hired by the goon Sundeep punched challenges them. In self-defense, Sundeep and Sri charge toward the gang.
