Story:

The 2024 Indian Malayalam action comedy film Aavesham was written and directed by Jithu Madhavan. Nazriya Nazim and Anwar Rasheed, working for Fahadh Faasil and Friends and Anwar Rasheed Entertainments, are the film’s producers. Roshan Shanavas, Mithun Jai Shankar, Sajin Gopu, Hipzster, Fahadh Faasil, Midhutty, and Mansoor Ali Khan are among its cast members. The film centers on three young people in Bangalore who, in order to exact revenge on their school bullies, make friends with a local criminal.

Being the first project of Fahadh Faasil and Friends, the movie was first unveiled in March 2023 under the provisional title Production No.1. The official title was revealed in May of the same year. In Bangalore, principal photography started that same month and was mostly completed by the end of November. Sushin Shyam wrote the film’s music, Sameer Thahir handled the photography, and Vivek Harshan edited it.

Critics praised Aavesham’s directing, performances (particularly Fahadh Faasil and Sajin Gopu), action scenes, photography, music, and technological elements when it was published on April 11, 2024. Despite having a ₹30 crore budget, the movie made over ₹154 crore, making it a blockbuster. At present, it is the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024 and the fourth highest-grossing Malayalam film throughout history.

Plot

Aju, Bibi, and Shanthan travel from Kerala to Bangaluru to attend Vaana Veekshan campus to seek a degree in aeronautical engineering. They select the BK Hostel because they feel more free there than at their campus residence. They initially had a good time there until an altercation with senior Kutty gets out of hand and bruises his pride. In retribution, Kutty and his group drag the three to his house and beat them mercilessly, then declare friendship. Feeling humiliated, Aju seeks retribution and takes his pals to several clubs where they look for gangsters. Eventually, he makes friends with Ranjith “Ranga” Gangadharan, a well-known, quirky, and compassionate Malayali-Kannadiga gangster, and his powerful and humorous goons, Ambaan.

Ranga drops the three of them off at their hostel one day after they have had too much to drink, but the hostel warden cautions them against arriving late because of hostel regulations. As a gesture of goodwill, Ranga brings them to his former home to make accommodations. They get disillusioned with Ranga’s inaction and discover that his crew only gives him acclaim while doing small acts of violence. During the campus Holi festival, Ranga loses his temper and beats up Kutty and his group in front of everyone after Bibi confronts him about the event involving Kutty. Due to their relationship with Ranga and their inability to pass tests, the trio faces expulsion; however, they are granted another opportunity with the promise that they will pass all subsequent exams.

As Ranga continues to include the three in his fights and parties, their relationship with him starts to interfere with their academic performance. The three of them learn a sobering reality about Ranga’s background one evening in the house. The trio approaches Ranga after this revelation and attempts to tell him that they want to break up their relationship with him, but they back off when they see Ranga threatening to kill two of his gang members who are attempting to leave the group. When Ranga’s previous boss, Reddy, kidnaps the three, their problems get worse. Reddy asks them to phone him whenever they see Ranga because he claims that he stole his identity and wants their assistance in getting rid of him. They return home after escaping Reddy’s threats.

Ranga frantically looks for the three of them, and at last one of them chooses to confront Ranga and devise a scheme to call Reddy while he is by himself. In order to cut off any contact with Ranga and his group, they finally give him a call and invite him to meet at his place.

In addition to telling Ranga how badly he had affected their lives following that fortuitous meeting, the guys also disclose to him that they had only been friends with him in order to keep Kutty and his gang at bay. Ranga summons his gang to the residence, now enraged. Now frightened for their lives, the nervous three attempt to make up a strategy on the fly. To eliminate Ranga from their lives, they give Reddy and his group a call.

Ranga discovers that the boys have betrayed him when Reddy and his thugs arrive before his group. Disturbed by their treachery, they first beat Ranga and set fire to his favorite Toyota Qualis. However, Ranga violates his mother’s promise to stay out of conflicts and goes on a rampage, murdering all of Reddy’s thugs by himself. Ranga uses his goons to block the house’s windows and exits while he chases the lads across the house.

According to Ranga, he kept the lads by his side since, in his life, no one had ever been near to him unless they were in need of his assistance. They acknowledge their error and offer Ranga their apologies. Ranga begrudgingly leaves them and tells them to pass the exams. Shanthan does well on his examinations, but Aju and Bibi fail them. They run across Ranga outside the campus, who teasingly chastises Aju and Bibi for failing the tests.
