Malayalam films are produced and directed by Anwar Rasheed, an Indian filmmaker. In 2005, he debuted with Rajamanikyam. He kept making popular action-comedies, including Annan Thambi (2008) and Chotta Mumbai (2007). The National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment went to his drama Ustad Hotel (2012). Under the Anwar Rasheed Entertainments label, he has produced critically and commercially acclaimed films such as Bangalore Days (2014), Premam (2015), and Parava (2017).
Rasheed began working as a film assistant for filmmaker Ranjith. Rasheed was asked to helm the same project after Ranjith retracted his plan to direct Rajamanikyam. In 2005, Rasheed made his directorial debut with Rajamanikyam, starring Mammootty. He directed the action-comedy Chotta Mumbai in 2007, which starred Mohanlal in the protagonist. The drama Bridge in Kerala Cafe (2009), the action-comedy Annan Thambi (2008), and Ustad Hotel (2012)—the latter of which took home the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment—came after it. Anwar directed the Aami part in the 2013 anthology movie 5 Sundarikal. Trance, which stars Fahadh Faasil, is his most recent film as a director.
