Biography:
Sean Gunn, born on May 22, 1974, is an American actor recognized for his portrayal of Kirk Gleason on Gilmore Girls (2000–2007) and for his role as Kraglin Obfonteri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), the animated series What If…? (2021–2024), and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022). Gunn also played Weasel and Calendar Man in the DCEU film The Suicide Squad (2021) and reprised Weasel in the HBO Max series Creature Commandos (2024), where he additionally voices G.I. Robot. He is the younger brother of director James Gunn and frequently appears in his projects.
Gunn began his acting career in 1995 with a role as Sammy Capulet in the B-movie Tromeo and Juliet. In 2000, he guest-starred as Mick, a DSL installer, in the second episode of Gilmore Girls. His character evolved into Kirk Gleason, one of the town’s most eccentric residents, and he became a regular from 2002 until the series concluded in 2007. He also had a recurring role on October Road as Rooster.
Beyond Gilmore Girls, Gunn has made guest appearances on shows like Angel, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Yes, Dear, True Jackson, VP, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, and Bunheads. He appeared in commercials for the text message service KGB.com. In film, his notable role was “Alien Orphan/Doug” in The Specials, for which he also received a co-producer credit.
In 2003, Gunn starred in the featurette The Man Who Invented the Moon, directed by fellow DePaul alum John Cabrera. He has collaborated creatively with his brothers James and Brian on the parody series James Gunn’s PG Porn and appeared in James Gunn’s 2010 film Super. He also voiced Swan in the video game Lollipop Chainsaw, written by James Gunn.
Gunn appeared on Glee in season 4 as Phineas Hayes and provided performance capture for Rocket while playing Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). He reprised these roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022), and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). In 2021, he portrayed both Weasel and Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad and reprised Weasel in Creature Commandos (2024). In 2025, he is set to appear as Maxwell Lord in Superman.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Gunn is the youngest of six siblings. His family includes filmmaker James Gunn, actor and political writer Matt Gunn, screenwriter Brian Gunn, producer Patrick Gunn, and sister Beth, an employment attorney. Their parents are Leota (Hynek) and James F. Gunn, a retired corporate attorney.
Gunn attended St. Louis University High School, graduating in 1992, and earned his degree from The Theatre School at DePaul University in 1996. In 2019, he married actress and director Natasha Halevi.
