Roland Møller

Biography:

Roland Møller (born May 28, 1972) is a Danish actor known for his powerful performances in both domestic and international films. He earned the Bodil Award for Best Leading Actor for Land of Mine (2015) and won Best Supporting Actor for Northwest (2013). His film credits include major titles such as A Hijacking, Darkland, Atomic Blonde, Papillon, and Skyscraper.

Møller was raised in a tough environment in Odense, Denmark, and had a troubled past marked by 10 assault convictions, serving a total of four and a half years in prison. In 2002, he was granted parole on the condition that he leave Odense. After his release, he enrolled at Den Rytmiske Højskole, a music folk high school, and later relocated to Copenhagen, where he began writing songs for rapper Jokeren.

His acting career began with the 2010 prison drama R. Initially brought on as a consultant due to his experience at Horsens State Prison (where the film was set), Møller was offered a role by co-director Tobias Lindholm. His performance earned him nominations for Best Supporting Actor at both the Bodil Awards and the Danish Film Critics Association Awards. He went on to work with Lindholm again in A Hijacking (2012) and appeared in Northwest (2013), directed by Michael Noer. His role in Northwest won him the Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2014, Møller was cast in A Second Chance, and in 2015 he took on his first lead role in the World War II drama Land of Mine, which garnered him the Bodil Award for Best Leading Actor.

His international profile grew in 2017 with roles in the crime thriller Darkland, the spy action film Atomic Blonde, and the remake of Papillon, once again working with director Michael Noer.
