Indian stage and film actor Kotturu Chikkarangappa Raghunath, better known by his stage name Rangayana Raghu, was born on April 17, 1965. He is well recognized for his roles in Kannada films.
He has acted in more than 250 movies, primarily playing comedic and negatively tinted characters. He performed on stage with B. V. Karanth’s theatrical company Rangayana from 1988 till 1999, before going into cinema acting. His feature debut, Suggi, was shelved in 1995.
Raghu’s role as an antagonist in Dhumm (2002) led to his big debut in the film industry. His work in the 2007 movie Duniya, which brought home his second Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, is what made him most famous.
His other noteworthy performances were in the films Jayammana Maga (2013), Raam (2009), Olave Mandara (2011), and Cyanide (2006). His wife Mangala and he founded Sanchari Theatre, a children’s theater training facility, in 2014.
As the ninth child of Chikkarangaiah and Veeramma, Raghu was born on April 17, 1965, as Kotturu Chikkarangappa Raghunath, in the village of Kotturu, in the Pavagada taluk of the Tumkur district of the former Mysore State (now Karnataka).
After joining the Rangayana theatrical group in Mysore in 1988, Raghu started his career as an actor, earning ₹800 per month.[4] His first appearance on screen was in the Hamsalekha-directed Kannada film Suggi (1995), which was ultimately shelved.
He later had a little part in Megha Banthu Megha and Aryabhata, and he also starred in the 2002 movie Dhumm. His first feature film, Mani, directed by Yogaraj Bhat, was a huge success. With roles in movies like Director’s Special, Alemari, Duniya, Ranga SSLC, and Modalasala, he won praise from critics. The film My Name is Annappa marked Raghu’s Tulu film debut in 2018.
