Early Life:
Priya Anand was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on September 17, 1986. She is the only child of a half-Telugu, half-Marathi father and a Tamil mother. She was raised in Chennai and Hyderabad, the hometowns of both of her parents, where she became fluent in Tamil and Telugu. Priya is fluent in her native tongues as well as English, Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, and Spanish.
Since she was a little child, Priya has been fascinated by films and has grown to love the cinema. She says that she has always dreamed of working in the film industry and acquiring technical skills, but she never considered becoming an actor. She relocated to the US and continued her academic education there. She attended SUNY Albany to study media and communications to pursue a later career. She went back to India in 2008 and started modelling, showing up in several television commercials for brands including Nutrine Maha Lacto, Prince Jewelers, and Cadbury Dairy Milk.
Film Career:
Beginning to make her acting debut in the Tamil film Pugaippadam, for which she signed up first, Priya’s first release was the action thriller Vaamanan, which was directed by relative unknown Ahmed. Late in 2008, she was hired for the film to play Divya, the neighbour girl whom the male protagonist character, played by Jai, would fall in love with. The song “Aedho Saigirai,” which featured her, was considered to be her “claim-to-fame” that made her popular among Tamil audiences and was dubbed as a “Priya song,” which contributed to the film’s success music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and enabled a big opening.
Her first Hindi film, English Vinglish (2012), was produced by R Balki, and it included Sridevi, whom Priya admires and views as her role model. “I signed this film just to be up close and personal with an artist who has influenced me and to be a part of something so important to her,” Priya said. I’m acting in this movie as a fan of hers, and I’m privileged to have a significant role in the story of her journey. She performed in the 2012 Telugu romantic comedy Ko Antey Koti. 2013 saw her star in the Hindi flicks Rangrezz and Fukrey. She co-starred in Ethir Neechal (2013) with Sivakarthikeyan and Nandita Swetha in the major role. The movie is a financial success.
Kayamkulam Kochunni (2018), a Malayalam historical drama starring Nivin Pauly, was widely anticipated because it fulfilled Priya Anand’s long-held ambition to work in the genre. The character of Priya was crucial to Kochunni’s story. Priya, who immediately won over the Kannada filmgoing public with her debut film, collaborated with Ganesh for the 2018 film Orange. She made an appearance in the 2019 Malayalam film Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel with Dileep. Priya Anand plays a Data Analyst for Elections in the 2019 Tamil political satire LKG. Adithya Varma (2019), Dhruv Vikram’s directorial debut, featured her in a supporting role. James will see Priya Anand working once more with Puneeth Rajkumar. The following Tamil film she stars in with Shiva is the comedy-drama Sumo.
