Biography:

Peter Finch was an Australian-British actor who was famous for his strong and versatile performances in cinema, theatre, and television. Peter Finch was born Frederick George Peter Ingle Finch on September 28, 1916, in London, England. He grew up mostly in Australia and became a successful actor of theatre and radio in the country.

He became famous after starring in some Australian films and then moved to Great Britain where he established himself in international cinema with starring roles in A Town Like Alice (1956), The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960), Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971), and The Pumpkin Eater (1964). He was especially praised for his abilities to play complex characters of people with inner turmoil. Finch is best known for his role of Howard Beale, the temperamental television news anchorman in the movie Network (1976). For this performance, Finch won the Academy Award for Best Actor and became the first person to receive this award posthumously.

For his role, Finch was nominated for BAFTA Award and Golden Globe Award. In total, he had two nominations for the Academy Awards: for Sunday Bloody Sunday and for Network. Finch died of a heart attack on January 14, 1977, in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 60.
