Brian Duffield

Biography:

Duffield, the son of Brian and Brenda Duffield, was born on November 5, 1985. The first nine years of his life were spent in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and he has two sisters. When his parents chose to become evangelical missionaries in 1995, he and his family relocated to rural Ireland. Later on, he said that the place where they had settled was utterly isolated and devoid of popular culture. It was “very Little House on the Prairie-esque” for him to attend school in County Kildare, where a single teacher taught three different grades in a single classroom. After completing high school in 2004, he returned to the United States.

In 2008, Duffield earned degrees from Messiah College and Temple University.Before the 2007–08 Writers Guild of America strike and the start of the Great Recession, he relocated to Universal City, California for a summer internship with Temple University at the Oakwoods apartments. After that, he held a number of occupations before turning to screenwriting as a career. His first job in Los Angeles was with author Blake Harris at the now-closed Storyopolis, a children’s book store and art gallery in Studio City. He has also spent a number of years working in the film industry as a script reader and assistant. Duffield worked temporarily at the Lucky Brand Jeans factory in nearby Vernon, California, before selling his first spec script.
