Nathaniel Buzolic
Biography:
Nathaniel Buzolic (born 4 August 1983) is an Australian actor and television presenter. He previously hosted the Nine Network’s late-night quiz show The Mint and held a regular role on the BBC soap opera Out of the Blue (2008). He also co-hosted the educational program Weather Ed on the Sky News Weather Channel. Buzolic is widely recognized for portraying Kol Mikaelson on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off series The Originals.
A first-generation Australian of Croatian heritage, Buzolic’s mother was born in a refugee camp in Egypt and later grew up in Lakemba, New South Wales. He attended De La Salle College Ashfield and went on to train at the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) in Sydney. He later studied at Screenwise Acting School for Film and Television, graduating in 2004.
In 2005, Buzolic hosted the Disney Channel’s afternoon children’s program Studio Disney. Earlier in his career, he appeared in television series such as All Saints (2003), Home and Away (2002), and had an uncredited role in an episode of Water Rats (2001).
He starred in the 2008 comedy film Offing David, playing the lead role alongside fellow Australian actor Adam J. Yeend. Prior to that, he had smaller roles in the 2007 Australian short films Road Rage and My Greatest Day Ever.
In 2011, Buzolic joined The Vampire Diaries as Kol Mikaelson. He later reprised the role in the pilot episode of its spin-off, The Originals, and returned for the show’s second season, appearing in promotional material unveiled at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con.
In February 2014, he was cast in a leading role in Supernatural: Bloodlines, a proposed spin-off of The CW’s Supernatural, introduced through a backdoor pilot during the ninth season. However, the network ultimately decided not to move forward with the series. That same year, he appeared in two episodes of the fourth season of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars as Dean Stavros, a substance abuse counselor for Spencer Hastings, later reprising the role in the sixth season. He also portrayed Harold Doss, the brother of the main character, in the film Hacksaw Ridge, starring Andrew Garfield. In March 2022, it was announced that he would again play Kol Mikaelson in Legacies.
Buzolic identifies as a born-again Christian.
He has publicly expressed support for Israel during the Gaza conflict and has visited the country numerous times since 2017. In October 2023, he condemned the October 7 attacks and voiced strong criticism of the pro-Palestinian movement. In a January 2024 interview with Sky News Australia, he described the slogan “from the river to the sea” as a call for genocide against the Jewish presence in the region.
