Nag Ashwin

Biography:

Nag Ashwin Reddy is an acclaimed filmmaker and writer from India who has made notable contributions to Telugu cinema. He ventured into directing in 2015 with his debut film, “Yevade Subramanyam,” a thought-provoking coming-of-age drama.

In 2018, he helmed the biographical movie “Mahanati,” which portrayed the life of the legendary actress Savitri, with Keerthy Suresh in the lead role. The film received widespread acclaim and was honored with the Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 66th National Film Awards in 2019. Nag Ashwin himself was recognized with the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu at the 66th Filmfare Awards South.

“Mahanati” was also showcased in the Indian Panorama Mainstream section at the 49th International Film Festival of India and received the “Equality in Cinema Award” at the 2018 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

Nag Ashwin was born in Hyderabad to Jayaram and Jayanthi Reddy, both of whom are medical professionals. He has a sister named Nikhila Reddy. He completed his schooling at Hyderabad Public School and pursued a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from MIC, Manipal. Additionally, he undertook a Film Direction course at the New York Film Academy.

Nag Ashwin embarked on his journey in the film industry as an assistant director for the movie “Nenu Meeku Telusa…?”. He also worked as an assistant director alongside Sekhar Kammula for the films “Leader” and “Life Is Beautiful.”

For his upcoming third film, Nag Ashwin will collaborate with Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone, marking their first-time association. The film will be produced and presented by Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema, respectively.

In December 2015, Ashwin tied the knot with Priyanka Dutt, the daughter of producer C. Ashwini Dutt from Vyjayanthi Movies. The couple is blessed with a son.
