Mona Singh, born on October 8, 1981, is an Indian actress, dancer, model, comedian, and television presenter. Initially gaining recognition in the 2000s for her portrayal of the lead character in the soap opera “Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin” (2003–06), she has since taken on various roles in both television and film. Singh, a recipient of two Indian Television Academy Awards, made her film debut in Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy-drama “3 Idiots” (2009), which ranks among the highest-grossing Indian films.
Known for winning the first season of the reality series “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” and her roles in shows like “Kya Huaa Tera Vaada,” “Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do,” and “Kavach… Kaali Shaktiyon Se,” Singh has showcased her versatility. Apart from acting, she has hosted television shows such as “Comedy Nights Live” and “Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega.”
Born into a Sikh family in Chandigarh, Singh’s father, an Army officer, led to her frequent relocation, making her an alumnus of Kendriya Vidyalaya Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur. In 2019, she married filmmaker Shyam Rajagopalan in a traditional Sikh ceremony.
Her television journey began with the iconic soap opera “Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin,” where she gained immense popularity as Jasmeet “Jassi” Walia. Singh’s success continued with wins in reality shows like “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 1” and “Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena.” Collaborating with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, she worked on fiction shows like “Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi.”

In 2023, Singh impressed audiences with her role in Zoya Akhtar’s “Made In Heaven,” playing Bulbul Jauhari. Her noteworthy performance earned critical acclaim. She also appeared in a significant role as a doctor in Netflix’s “Kaala Paani,” receiving positive reviews.
Despite a successful television career, Singh made her mark in films, debuting with “3 Idiots” and later appearing in movies like “Utt Pataang,” “Zed Plus,” and “Amavas.” In 2022, she played a crucial role as the protagonist’s mother in Aamir Khan’s “Laal Singh Chaddha,” defending her portrayal by stating that she was portraying Laal’s mother, not Aamir Khan’s.
