Mahalingam Sasikumar is an Indian film director, actor, singer and producer. He worked as an assistant director for director Bala in Sethu, also worked for director Ameer in his first two films MounamPesiyadhe and Raam.
He worked as an assistant director for director Bala in Sethu (1999), also worked for director Ameer in his first two films MounamPesiyadhe (2002) and Raam (2005).He is best known in the Tamil film industry for his debut film Subramaniapuram (2008), which became a blockbuster.
After assisting director Ameer in his films, M. Sasikumar made his debut on the silver screen with the Tamil-language period drama Subramaniapuram (2008). The low-budget film, which was shot in just 85 days went onto be become a sleeper hit.
The production of “Tharai Thappattai” spanned over two years, with an unfortunate three-month hiatus in 2015 due to an injury Sasikumar sustained while filming the movie’s climax scene, where he dislocated his hand. The film’s soundtrack was composed by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja, and it was highly anticipated as it marked his 1000th film score. The soundtrack consisted of seven tracks, comprising five songs and two theme scores.
“Tharai Thappattai” was eventually released on 14th January 2016 and received predominantly positive reviews from both critics and audiences. Following this success, Sasikumar continued to star in several other films, including “Vetrivel,” “Appa,” “Kidaari,” and “Balle Vellaiyathevaa.”
Sasikumar collaborated with director M. Muthaiah once again, just like they had previously worked together on “Kutti Puli.” This time, they teamed up for “Kodiveeran,” which was produced by M. Sasikumar’s own production company.
The year 2018 saw Sasikumar in the film “Asuravadham.” However, it’s worth noting that despite his efforts, he had faced a string of films that didn’t quite meet expectations, and “Asuravadham” received mixed reviews from both critics and the audience.
Sasikumar’s journey in the film industry from 2013 to 2018 included notable collaborations, training, and experiences, with “Tharai Thappattai” being a standout project due to its association with director Bala and music maestro Ilaiyaraaja, while subsequent films had varying degrees of success.
