Elred Kumar

Biography:

Indian cinema director, writer, and producer Elred Kumar Santhanam is well known for his roles in the films Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal, and Ko. Under his production company, RS Infotainment, he produced his movie.

2009–2012: Tamil cinema industry breakthrough
Thangachimadam is the village where Kumar was born. At the College of Engineering, Guindy, he finished his post-graduate studies in engineering. The Economic Times first described Elred Kumar as “a businessman passionate about the film industry” in a 2009 article. It was then announced that he would work with his business partner R. Jayaraman as a part of RS Infotainment to be the producers of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010), starring Gautham Vasudev Menon, alongside Madan of Escape Artists Motion Pictures and VTV Ganesh.

Silambarasan and Trisha Krishnan played the lead parts in this love tale of coming-of-age, with A. R. Rahman writing the soundtrack and music. It was well-received upon release, earning praise from critics who labeled it a “modern classic” and turning it into a profitable endeavor. His subsequent project, Ko (2011), which starred Jiiva, Karthika Nair, and Piaa Bajpai and was directed by K. V. Anand, also debuted to favorable reviews. The Hindu complimented the film’s production standards and called it a “tale with a realistic twist”. In addition, Elred Kumar co-produced the 2011 movies Veppam and Nadunisi Naaygal with Jayaraman, Madan, Venkat, and Gautham Menon.

Elred Kumar wrote the script for Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal (2012), which starred Amala Paul and Adharvaa Murali.

But in March 2011, Elred took over as the project’s director when the director was fired. The movie had a mixed reception upon its premiere, with several critics critiquing Kumar’s direction. “The director has got many things wrong,” an IBN critic wrote, adding, “sadly, Kumar, while focusing on such things, seems to have lost the grip on the script, which lacks logic or coherence.” Sify.com, on the other hand, stated that Elred “makes a confident debut with a film that maintains its suspense till the end.” After the movie’s mediocre box office performance, Elred thought of remaking the movie using a different script.
