Bala Singh, an Indian actor renowned for his appearances in Tamil language films, was born on May 7, 1952, and tragically passed away on November 27, 2019. His cinematic journey began with his debut role in Nassar’s film “Avatharam” in 1995, marking the start of a prolific career in which he became well-known for portraying antagonistic characters in over a hundred films.

Hailing from Kaliyakkavilai near Marthandam in Kanyakumari District, Bala Singh initially ventured into the world of entertainment through stage plays. He honed his acting skills at the prestigious National School of Drama before making his foray into the world of cinema with Nassar’s “Avatharam.” In this film, he delivered a memorable performance as Baasi, the primary antagonist, earning critical acclaim for his portrayal. Throughout his career, Bala Singh continued to play supporting roles in films directed by esteemed directors like Shankar, Mani Ratnam, Hari, A. L. Vijay, Selvaraghavan, and Kamal Haasan, often taking on the role of the villain.

In 2009, Bala Singh took on a different kind of role, playing the lead as a grandfather in the film “Vannathupoochi,” which explored the intricate dynamics and relationships between grandparents and their grandchildren. Unfortunately, his life was cut short when he passed away on November 27, 2019, in Chennai due to a cardiac arrest, leaving behind a legacy of impactful performances in the world of Tamil cinema.
